A BIT OF HISTORY

Hamburg MI was established in 1837.  A merchant in Ann Arbor purchased 30 acres in Hamburg in 1935.  It is said he built a dam and a sawmill.  In 1837 the land was sold off to three Germans.  A grist mill, store and hotel was added. A plat was recorded in 1837. During a meeting, of said nineteen men, the name Hamburg was decided upon after three of the land owners hometown of Hamburg, Germany.
